TROOPER TASERS OVI DRIVER

Elyria – A Trooper had to deploy his Taser on a driver that attempted to run from him early Saturday morning on Antioch Drive in Elyria.

Lieutenant Travis Hughes of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said that Trooper Jeff Kaess attempted to pull the man over after for a traffic violation. “The man continued to drive a short distance and pulled into his driveway here on Antioch. Trooper Kaess got out of his car and the man was also getting out of his truck. The man was ordered to get back in his truck but did not comply with the order.”

Hughes said that the man looked at Kaess then started to run for the front door of the home, it was then that Kaess deployed the Taser – striking the man.

LifeCare Paramedics were called at the request of the man and was transported to Elyria Memorial Hospital for evaluation.

Hughes said that the man would be charged with OVI and would likely also be charged with Failure to Comply or Obstructing.
